About Pet Insurance

I learned this recently the hard way.

My dog needed disc surgery this month. His illness got to the point where he was unable to walk. I was worried that we might have to make the terrible decision to put him down.

You have no idea how expensive vet care can be when something like this happens.

My dog Yogi - a little Min. Pin. who just turned 10 years old in September - is part of our family, and the Lord blessed me with his good healing. He is home now, and doing remarkably well. He is still recovering from pneumonia - which that - and another vet hospital we had him in - almost killed him.

This other vet hospital almost bankrupted us. I think that the quality of care declined when our finances did.

We had to move him to another facility in an emergency situation. It was closer, and more reasonably priced as well.

It was divine inspiration that my husband, Marty, picked up the phone to check on another place to take Yogi.

Praise God, for He is good!

Why I am writing about this is because I want to recommend to the pet owners - especially if their pet is healthy - to invest in pet insurance.

I signed up for pet insurance with the
ASPCA last year, and I have to call tomorrow for claim forms to mail in bills. (I had to pay for the bills first then submit the bills.) I don't know what they will cover, because I signed up when my dog started to have trouble.

I learned that pet insurance have exemption clauses for pre-existing or heredity conditions and such.

The pet insurance is under 30.00 per month for what I signed up for.

I'll post on how everything goes.

My advice is to shop around before your pet gets sick. Ask if they offer 24 hour care, oxygen and emergency care. Just because it is more expensive does not translate it would be best.

Also don't expect your vet to be straightforward in letting you know that there is a better vet facility available - even if it is at a better price. I found out to my dismay if the facilities compete with services they will refer to those who don't.

I have been terribly upset over this for awhile now. I can not encourage enough about the pet insurance.

I kept putting it off, because my Yogi was healthy. I thought the money could be better used elsewhere. This is to my dismay, and now I have to pray that the insurance I signed up for might pay some of the enormous bills. (We had to borrow quite a bit, but I'm not complaining)

I know someone else who wished they signed up for it as well. They were hit with a $600.00 dollar bill for their cats care. Her pet came through everything ok.

Praise God again.

I am dismayed at some of the content of the advertisements, but with limited funds it isn't always practical to upgrade in order to remove them. My plan is to only upgrade as needed.
