Medline Plus: Caffeine
Caffeine
Caffeine is a bitter substance found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate, some nuts and certain medicines. It has many effects on the body's metabolism, including stimulating the central nervous system. This can make you more alert and give you a boost of energy.
For most people, the amount of caffeine in two to four cups of coffee a day is not harmful. However, too much caffeine can make you restless, anxious and irritable. It may also keep you from sleeping well and cause headaches, abnormal heart rhythms or other problems. If you stop using caffeine, you could get withdrawal symptoms.
Some people are more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than others. They should limit their use of caffeine. So should pregnant and nursing women. Certain drugs and supplements may interact with caffeine. If you have questions about whether caffeine is safe for you, talk with your health care provider.

Many people may have the mistaken idea that Caffeine is a safe substance, and is ok to consume - and wouldn't hurt anything even if taken in larger quantities. It is a relatively safe chemical, but not when ingested in larger doses.
There are side effects to ingesting a large intake of Caffeine.
It also cannot make up for a poor nutritional lifestyle, and adds up to self-medicating - usually in response to improper sleep patterns or lack of sleep all together.
Could this be connected to the amount of irrational anger outbursts - such as road rage and violence?
I think too much consumption of this chemical does have addictive qualities, and can cause - or fuel - irritation or agitation, and can negatively interact with other medications or chemicals.
A person cannot ingest large quantities of Caffeine from various sources - and it's in drinks to candy - and expect to encourage good sleep patterns.
An excessive intake of vitamins - or sugar - is also not a good thing either such as vitamin waters, power drinks and such.
More is always not a good thing.
A positive alternative - reach for the vegetable or fruit juice instead. A better idea reach for simply fruit and raw vegetables.
I learned this over time. I was ingesting a large amount of daily Caffeine. I was experiencing quite a bit of irrational agitation with people around me - being short-tempered. It was also fueling my impatience.
I cut way down when I was shown this by an inspired thought. I feel better, and have calmed way down. Now I'm trying to do something about my improper sleep habits.
Someone posted something of interest in a Yahoo Group I belong to, which talked about the Lord's days and nights shown in the book of Genesis. I realized that my days and nights were not in tune with the Lord's days and nights - which is one reason maybe why I don't have a general feeling of wellness most of the time.
It presented as a bit of a stumbling block in the going about of the Lord's work too.
I finally quit smoking because of that reason too - when I was called on it.
Old habits and learned behaviors can take a bit to change, turn around or unlearn I'm finding.
