Dear Mrs. Earhart:

Thank you for your July 28th correspondence concerning your opposition to S. 2433, the proposed Global Poverty Act. I am happy to share my thoughts on this issue with you.
.
As you may know, this bill, and the corresponding House version of the bill, H.R. 1302, requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals to improve life for the world's poorest people by 2015.

H.R. 1302 passed the House of Representatives on September 25, 2007 by voice vote and has been sent to the Senate for consideration. the corresponding Senate version of the bill, S. 2433, has been placed on the Senate calendar for consideration, although it appears unlikely at this time that this bill will be considered before the end of the 110th Congress.
