Rice Says NATO will defeat Russian aims in Georgia (AP)

AP - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Monday that Russia is playing a "very dangerous game" with the U.S. and its allies and warned that NATO would not allow Moscow to win in Georgia, destabilize Europe or draw a new Iron Curtain through it.

I listened to Secretary of State Rice say something to this effect in an interview on TV as well.

Someone even went so far to say that Russia should not be allowed to host the olympics to teach them a lesson. egads people.

My opinion is this:

First, the nation of Georgia is not a member of NATO, so wouldn't involve a NATO action against Russia I don't think.

I heard in news reports that this is a territory dispute between Georgia, South Ossetia & Abkhazia. I believe it to be a matter for the courts to decide.

Why is it that rocks are thrown at Russia for protecting their interests - and are rebuked, (and so is everybody else wrong and rebuked for doing it) EXCEPT the United States when the United States moves to protect her interests and enters the sovereign nation of Iraq?

Many didn't agree with that - and still don't.
.
Didn't the United States do exactly the same thing as Russia?

Israel was rebuked when she decided to protect her interests, and encouraged to make allowances with individuals who went on to vote in Hamas?
.
It's ok to obtain information from despots to further the aims of the United States from places such as Darfur?
.
It's ok on one hand to have to have prisons and such in Cuba, but not trade relations and are sanctioned on the other?
.
The ends justify the means in furthering - only - our aims?

And now Russia is wrong and rebuked in protecting hers when Russia is helping two smaller territories within Georgia exert their right to independence from Georgia?

Did these two territories request help from Russia against Georgian aggression against them? Don't they have the right to align with Russia if they want to, and help assert their rights for freedom - which they seem to have had all along?

Nothing is said about that.

Sounds hypocritical and two faced to me.

It is strongly Georgia's fault if they acted against advice to argue with a bear.

I agree we should be supportive with the nation of Georgia, and help them in what they need as far as humanitarian aid being our ally.

I don't actually remember thinking of Russia as a solid good world citizen?

I don't think it is our business to be involved in this dispute, and think it is a matter for the world court to decide, and maybe with discussion and advocacy as far as the United Nations. Isn't this what the United Nation's actually is supposed to do?

Just where did this global international INSTITUTION idea come from?

Sounds too NWO to me.

I don't blame Russia for re-evolving it's strength as far as something like that. Didn't they actually invent the concept of NWO?

I feel that the Secretary of State is embarrassing herself in this lame saber rattling.

Maybe we should recruit Governor Schwarzenegger for any concrete saber rattling - now that would be much more authentic.

This is really none of our business - let alone volunteering other nations (NATO) to get involved - AND certainly not in the arming of Poland.

AS USUAL - It's making matters worse.

If this keeps up they will most certainly be instituting a draft. They'll have to since we will be at war with almost everybody on the planet.

The United States IS NOT the world police or hall monitor, and I don't think we are the best as far as good world citizens at the moment either - or in hypocritical rebuking of anybody.

I do not know why the phenomenon exists with people that refuse to learn from their actions or mistakes - or from the results of rash actions/thinking - who keep doing the same thing over and over again. It doesn't make sense to me.

I look forward to any feedback or ideas on that.

And I didn't actually think I would see the day that I would defend the side of Russia on anything. Imagine that.
