What Is Going On?
I was driving home and noticed that the landscape was disturbingly dark for this time of season. I noticed that a few - and wonderful neighbors - had put up some wonderful Christmas displays.
Spring City put up decorations - some of the lights were not working last night though. The decorations are a bit sparce, but at least the Borough is trying. (Spring City has, and is, actually working on Main Street revitalization - and what they have completed looks really good - especially the new trees! They were working on something this week again that tied up a bit of traffic, but I'm not sure what.)
My local area has experienced quite a bit of growth in the past 10 or so years, which has encouraged some awlful traffic conditions. Spring City and Royersford seem to have become a drive through on the way to somewhere else - in the direction of a bypass that was put in a few - maybe 15 or 20 - years ago. One direction goes towards Philadelphia, and I'm not certain where it ends in the other but it does go in the direction of Reading, PA. This driving through to somewhere else has been extremely hurtful to both of the downtown of S.C. and Rofo. Many established businesses have either closed/left or struggle. Parking stinks too. (I do not have any idea/suggestion on how they can possibly correct the problem either.)
The movie partly filmed in Royersford is an exciting happening!
...enough of that.
I went through Royersford PA last night, and noticed no Christmas decorations on driving through Main Street - the Borough still has not - or doesn't seem to be in any real hurry to - put up any decorations as of yet like they said they were going to.
Yea, to the sidewalk businesses though - like Lebow Furniture - that have! They are making the Main Street festive and appealing...
...and I want to say that it is indeed noticed too.
I went to KFC/Taco Bell at the local mall in Limerick by the bypass. I noticed that there was not a stitch of Christmas spirit - or decorations - in the restaurant. Also with no acknowledgement of the holidays either.
... But it still is early yet.
I sent my husband to my local Latshaw's hardware store to buy our Christmas lights. In spite of the fact that China is monopolizing the market. Brad pretty much sold out his lights - what he had - today! Brad was dismayed at not being able to find a Christmas supplier this year. (Brad is a good guy.)
The bigger picture didn't look good to me.
I cannot help feeling that this is now beginning to border on being unAmerican. What is it that is now starting to work - or undermine - on our American traditions and in our communities?
Christmas is supposed to bring out only the
very best in people, and something has been terribly wrong over the past several years.
One problem I can identify is with the media - or information highway.
I think - but am not entirely certain - but another problem might be rooted in our administration.
... and in the pinch of being at war with a more unseen enemy.
KFC, Sears, KMart and such I see are more rooted in the buck than in the American community.
Some of the television commercials are blatant about this too.
You know what - they can do that if they want. That is their American - fought for - right.
I'm starting to see that the complaining and fighting over such things as trivial as whether or not a 'community' borough decides to put up red and green lights takes away from the real spirit of what Christmas is really about.
Jesus teaches to be forgiving.
If there are certain elements that do not want to support the idea of God and Country - and our dearly held American traditions...
Fine.
It is their American right to sell out for a buck...
...and/or to support this possible new and interesting idea of multiculturalism.
(which I believe is in reality a spirit of political correctness - which is masking a greater encouragement of, or enabling, intolerance.)
It is their American right to make, promote and sell AntiChrist/AntiGod material/movies too.
You know what - I don't buy this stuff.
There are consequences to dismissing solid traditions - or in not being informed about the subversive - however.
Just when did it happen that the young - and there are a bunch of adults too that are doing the same thing - rejected and are dismissing the old ways? I found out that some of these old ways are rooted in truth - and of course, some are just folk tales - sometimes beautiful folk tales.
The United States Of America has always been a nation of immigrants.
A positive comment for Sears is that I really like what they are doing with Extreme Makeover - Home Edition. I am supportive of Sears in their good work at least with that.
As for me ... I'm putting out my Christmas display... I bought my new lights at my local hardware store ... in my Borough that did honor Christmas - or is trying to - and I'll write letters - after the Holidays - to G.E. and such to inquire about more options concerning China monopolizing the USA market with a glut of stuff.
I will keep in mind the Naughty and Nice List from Liberty Counsel to only buy at Christmas honoring stores - and boroughs. I will also be wary - and avoid - of Chinese made toys especially.
I like the Magic of Christmas!
AND I know other people do as well...
...whether they believe in Christ or not.
Christmas is mainly a beautiful holiday/festival for children...and has always been that way.
It was once said that a house divided against itself will surely fall.
25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
Maybe we are starting to hurt ourselves fighting over red and green lights more so than from some outright terrorist act.
We are fighting about a lot lately too.
Just watching Glenn Beck lately has been making me feel more sick - combining that with watching Nancy Grace. (I understand now why the network news sanitizes the news a bit from watching Nancy Grace which doesn't.)
I don't know what is wrong with people lately. Many have seemed to have lost their moral compass or just plain good sense.
Maybe I'll start turning off certain things - or video tape to watch - until after New Year's - 2008 people! - along with tuning out all the barrage of rooted in a buck/consumer rather than community commercials.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
